High School Predictions – Week 6

Not as good of a week last week with some major misses, and a few upsets. The Spain Park/Hewitt-Trussville game was insane. Four overtimes to end up with a missed extra point, that has to be heartbreaking. Almost as heartbreaking is that I picked the wrong team to miss that extra point.

Briarwood showed that they are definitely a playoff team, and even though Homewood handled them prety easily, I shouldn’t have doubted them over Hueytown. I also shouldn’t have doubted Pelham after dropping to Jackson-Olin last week. They got themselves a huge win over Walker to keep their playoff dreams alive.

Oak Mountain probably had the biggest shocker of the week for me with a huge win over Tuscaloosa County. Oak Mountain will be able to challenge this season in 7A Region 3, and I think will definitely wind up with a playoff spot, after already grabbing wins over Tuscaloosa County and Vestavia. They get a break from 7A this week, but it will be fun to watch their last half of the season.

Week 1: 1-4
Week 2: 7-4
Week 3: 8-3
Week 4: 9-2
Week 5: 7-4

Total: 32-17

This week sees some teams jumping out of region play, and others taking a bye week. Homewood is off this week, so I think I am going to check out Chelsea at Helena. Should be a good match-up. Hoover is also off this week, as are Spain Park, Thompson, and Clay-Chalkville.

Some of the better games this week include James Clemens coming in to Mountain Brook. I have to go with James Clemens in this one, but should be a good 7A Region 4 vs. Region 3 game. I also think the Minor at Gardendal game will be one of the better ones from two teams who are surprising a lot of people to be near the top of their region.
