Can you believe it’s already the fifth week of the season? Before you know it, someone will be raising the College Football Playoff trophy!

I didn’t make picks last week because of a busy week at the office. If you listened to Primetime, you heard my one thought on the weekend was that Alabama/Vandy would hit over 43. Little did I know that Alabama would do it themselves in a 59-0 win.

This week, there are a few games I like. Here are the Week 5 picks.

Week 5 Results: 6-6
Season Total: 17-12-1

USC (-3.5) at Washington State, O/U 64.5

Pick: USC -3.5

USC has been suspect all season and I am not buying into them being a championship contender yet. However, I do think they can win a fairly close game in Pullman by somewhere around a touchdown, and still cover the -3.5.

Result: Loss. A good back and forth game, but in the end, Luke Falk is better than Sam Darnold. I have thought Darnold was extremely overrated all season and tonight solidified that belief.

Vanderbilt at Florida (-10.5), O/U 42.5

Pick: Under 42.5

Outside of Alabama, Vandy’s defense has looked good. Florida’s offense is terrible, but their defense is pretty good too. I think this game could be a 17-14 style of game.

Result: Loss. This game was way higher scoring than I thought, and Florida’s offense didn’t look terrible against Vandy’s defense. Vandy is not the team we thought they were.

Florida State (-7.5) at Wake Forest, O/U 46.5

Pick: Wake Forest +7.5

Wake Forest has looked pretty good this year, and things are rough right now for FSU without Deondre Francois. FSU should be capable of winning this game big, but I am still leaning in the direction of Wake Forest.

Result: Win! It was barely a win as FSU scored late in the game to win by 7, but it was still a win for me.

Georgia (-7.5) at Tennessee, O/U 46.5

Pick: Georgia -7.5

I really like Georgia this year and think they could run the table in the regular season. This is the kind of game that could still be really close, however, Tennessee is dreadful this year.

Result: Win! Tennessee is indeed dreadful this year.

Iowa at Michigan State (-3.5), O/U 45.5

Pick: Iowa +3.5, Under 45.5

Sure, Iowa could be coming off a high of playing Penn State well last week, but they will also be looking for revenge after losing on the final play. Michigan State is not good this season and I kind of expect Iowa to win outright.

Result: Loss/Win. I thought this could be a field goal game either way. Turns out, Michigan State was the better team today by a touchdown, but still only 27 total points.

Clemson (-7.5) at Virginia Tech, O/U 51.5

Pick: Clemson -7.5

Clemson is really good this year, but the game against Auburn and Boston College showed some vulnerabilities. Virginia Tech can keep this close in a rocking stadium in Blacksburg at night, but I still like Clemson.

Result: Win! Virginia Tech had their moments, but Clemson is just too good.

Oklahoma State (-10.5) at Texas Tech, O/U 81.5

Pick: Oklahoma State (-10.5), Over 81.5

Yes, I’m picking over 81.5. Some places have it even higher. This could be a huge shootout. I also like Oklahoma State to bounce back though and win decently big.

Result: Loss/Loss. All I needed was one more touchdown to equal 82. And it would have been nice to be from Oklahoma State. Only a few points off both in a game that was a shootout, just not enough of one.

Ohio State (-29.5) at Rutgers, O/U 51.5

Pick: Rutgers +29.5

Look at that over/under. I’m not convinced Ohio State can beat a team like Rutgers that bad. Rutgers is not a good football team and there is no chance they win. However, I could see it being within four touchdowns.

Result: Loss. This was a stupid pick.

Troy at LSU (-19.5), O/U 48.5

Pick: Under 48.5

Troy isn’t a bad team, but they aren’t putting up huge offensive numbers. If Derrius Guice doesn’t play, they can keep it low scoring, even though LSU should still win.

Result: Win! And how about Troy winning outright. The state of Alabama had three SEC wins with Auburn and Alabama winning big too.

Ole Miss at Alabama (-27.5), O/U 59.5

Pick: Alabama -27.5

Easy win for Alabama this week as Ole Miss might have been a good game in the past, but they are a train wreck right now.

Result: Win! 66-3…ouch.
